First Church's Tuesday evening Meditation Group welcomes new members at all levels of experience. Learn the essential methods of mindfulness meditation; study the core teachings of the Buddha; enjoy interesting related discussions with the group.
The group will meets weekly on Tuesdays, 6:00 - 7:30pm in the church parlor. All are welcome!
Our weekly meditation group is led by Éowyn Ahlstrom, LMT, RYT who first encountered meditation and yoga nearly twenty years ago and has been practicing avidly ever since. She trained to teach at the UMass Center for Mindfulness and the Karuna Center for Yoga and Healing Arts. Over the years, Éowyn has made practice central to her life, attending many silent meditation retreats and yoga practice courses. Based at Listening Wellness Center in Barre, MA, Éowyn now teaches regionally. Her offerings include weekly classes, eight-week MBSR courses, yoga for retreats at the Insight Meditation Society, and an in-depth nine month program which she developed to re-integrate yoga and meditation, entitled Living Yoga Living Joyfully. In addition to our ongoing Mindfulness Meditation group, we periodically offer Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). MBSR is an experiential learning program that engages the cultivation of mindfulness: a moment-by-moment, non-judgmental awareness of experience. Through group and individual practices (including meditation and yoga), discussions, and presentations, we will learn a variety of approaches for integrating mindfulness into life. This 8-week course, originally developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, helps us find inner resources for balance, wellness, and peace of mind.
This year we will be offering a new class: Gentle Mindful Yoga. The class introduces the practice of mindful movement, which is gentle and enlivening, to anyone who wishes to explore embodiment with awareness. In this class you will discover how to skillfully relate to yoga as healing and awakening method. You will learn basic yoga movements and postures and consider easy ways to integrate them into your life for deeper well-being and meaning. Each session concludes with a brief guided sitting meditation.
