Outreach: Service Committee

Heifer Project-
We have the money for a cow, sheep and goat.  We will probably collect enough money for a pig, also.  That means we will be able to send one of earch of the larger animals.  We will have the box available for donations through the end of May in the sanctuary and the hall.   To check out the agency and the good work they do here is their website   http://www.heifer.org/site/c.edJRKQNiFiG/b.204586/.  If you go to gifts it shows the kind of animals that can be purchased and the cost.  You can also find Over Look Farm in Rutland at this website.  Originally we were going to send the check in the mail in June.  The service committee has agreed to wait until the fall.  This will allow our new RE director, Christine McCarthy, to try to put together a program whereby the children can go to Overlook Farm in Rutland and deliver the check from the church personally.  Thank you for making this all possible.

Wheat School Backpack Program-
We will have a basket in the Community Hall during the month of June to begin to collect the items for the backpack program.  If you see school supplies on sale, or see some great deals, we are looking for all the usual items to fill 5 or 6 backpacks for August.  We thought it would be easier on many of you to collect now rather than to do so during the summer months.  Notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, folders, binders, rulers, staplers, staples, glue stricks-- all the usual stuff.  Flash drives, and calculators are needed for the junior high and high school students.

Donation of Food Items for Wheat Pantry for June-
Peanut butter, jellies and snacks.  Plus what ever you may want to donate.
As usual we will also be collecting for BWRI.  Any personal care emergency items would be greatly appreciated.

We have been asked to donate non-perishable food items for the low income seniors in Lancaster.  This will be distributed through the Council on Aging.  We anticipate collecting the items during the summer services for both July and August.

Dedicate your veggies to a good cause.

For several reasons, the idea of plowing and planting, weeding, then harvesting a garden isn't going to happen this spring. We'll talk about it for next spring.

But we have a good idea for this year, we think...

If you are planting a veggie garden at your house this summer, how about sharing some of your harvest with the seniors or others who need it?
We'll do the work of finding out who and how to distribute, then share what the needs are.

If the congregation gets into this, it may lead to a garden next year.

Send an e-mail to Ann Frantz at ann.frantz@gmail.com if interested.
We'll be in touch.
